PHNOM PENH: The Vice President of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP), DPM Sar Kheng, has said that since gaining the trust of the people for this party to lead the country, the party has performed its duty correctly with a clear political path that leads to peace, respect for human rights, voting rights, socio-economic development, and protection of people's lives from danger. However, the DPM acknowledged that there were challenges that arose while leading the state, but said that these mistakes were not the result of the party's political mistakes.
Speaking during a meeting with leaders and members of CPP Committee 27 at the headquarters of the CPP on Monday morning, 30 May, DPM Sar Kheng said that there are many factors that contribute to mishaps in leading the state, attributable to an inability to sufficiently meet needs, inactivity of some government officials in their services, or other side effects that require new policy to be implemented to solve these problems.
He said, "Overall, those challenges are not the result of political or strategic mistakes that are detrimental to the nation. Separately, some extremist opposition groups and unscrupulous groups not only have not participated in solving existing challenges, but have also used those challenges to create unrest and distort the reality of society through populist movements, in an attempt to create social insecurity for their political gain regardless of national interest and the people of Cambodia.”
The DPM ordered party members to make more efforts to unite, build solidarity, disseminate party policies and working conditions, both nationally and internationally, to increase the number of party members and voluntarily assist civil servants without discrimination, and resolve challenges and inactivity, to make the party win in the upcoming 2022 Commune/District Council Elections and 2023 national elections.
The CPP was formed on 28 June 1951 by Cambodian nationalists to liberate the nation from French colonization. It is the oldest party in Cambodia, has played a major part in leading the struggle to liberate the Cambodian people from the Khmer Rouge regime in 1979, and has continued to lead the Cambodian government to this day.
With only six days left, the 5th Commune/District Election will be held on 5 June, with 17 political parties taking part. There are 11,622 seats from 1,652 communes and districts nationwide to be won, with more than 9.2 million registered voters.
